Since 2005, we have been representing and serving PLHIV and key affected populations in Myanmar, and for over 18 years, we have contributed significantly to the National AIDS Response. Along this journey, we have built success stories and gained valuable lessons, particularly highlighting the importance of a human rights-based approach in effectively addressing Myanmar’s HIV epidemic. Our commitment to these services and our communities remains unwavering as we move forward remains unwavering. Today, our team comprises over 300 dedicated staff working across (12) field offices nationwide, alongside our Secretariat and Head Office in Yangon.
At MPG, we are dedicated to playing a key role of community representative in achieving the National Strategic Plan (NSP) targets. Our focus remains on retaining 95% of people living with HIV (PLHIV) on antiretroviral therapy (ART) 12 months after initiation and ensuring that 95% of PLHIV on ART achieve viral suppression. To reach these goals, we will continue implementing activities that align with NSP Strategic Direction Two: Improving Health Outcomes for PLHIV.
We are committed to strengthening the capacity of PLHIV peer counselors, with a particular focus on adherence counseling, including for adolescents. This effort is crucial to maximizing retention and viral suppression, both of which are essential for meeting the third and final 95 target. Our dedicated peers will maintain their critical role in supporting and connecting patients to necessary services, working closely with National AIDS Program (NAP) facilities to address the ongoing challenge of loss-to-follow-up (LTFU). Additionally, our peers will continue to provide essential support, including psychosocial counseling, transportation allowances, hospitalization assistance, food packages, and funeral support in (103) townships where we operate. Through the current Global Fund grant, we proudly support and assist 67% of the total ART patient cohort receiving care at public ART facilities.
