Health for All: Our Commitment to Ending AIDS in Myanmar
At Myanmar Positive Group (MPG), we are dedicated to contributing to the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on HIV and AIDS by working collaboratively to reduce HIV transmission and its related health, social, and economic impacts in Myanmar.
We take pride in being a strong and reliable partner to the National AIDS Program (NAP) in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Our efforts focus on eliminating key communicable diseases, particularly among key populations such as men who have sex with men (MSM), sex workers (SW), and other vulnerable groups. Through our partnerships with local key population-led networks and community associations, we deliver comprehensive HIV prevention services and establish strong linkages to care. These initiatives align with the Strategic Direction of the NSP.
To support the objectives of Strategic Direction, MPG actively aids the NAP by embedding peer counselors and supporters at public antiretroviral therapy (ART) facilities. These individuals provide crucial counseling and psychosocial support services to people living with HIV (PLHIV) and their families, ensuring care that is compassionate and empowering.
In line with Strategic Direction, we aim to combat HIV-related stigma, discrimination, and harmful gender norms while addressing violence against women and girls. MPG implements activities such as community feedback mechanisms (CFM), HIV-related research and surveys, advocacy for improved laws and policies, provision of HIV-related legal services, and sensitization programs for healthcare workers to create an enabling and supportive environment for PLHIV and key populations.
As a partner of the NAP, we also focus on developing and implementing innovative strategies and contingency plans to ensure the continuity of HIV prevention, care, and treatment services, particularly during emergencies. Additionally, we strengthen community systems to build resilience and sustain impactful responses.
Our program coverage depends on funding, donor priorities, and alignment with national and local government strategies. MPG prioritizes addressing critical gaps in programming while avoiding duplication of efforts with other implementing partners. Our goal is to work where we can make the most effective impact.
MPG maintains active relationships with State and Regional Health Directors, as well as Township Medical Officers. We coordinate closely with the NAP to ensure our programs align with NSP goals and are tailored to meet local epidemiological and geographic needs.
At MPG, we are committed to ensuring health for all by delivering targeted, meaningful, and effective responses to HIV in Myanmar. Together, we can create a future free from HIV-related stigma and challenges.
